A Touch too Much

A Brisk Morning Hate

My iPod is an integral part of my life in that it keeps the grating monotony of my job at a minimum ( Maybe 'Apple' will see this and offer to buy my webcomic as a marketing tool, and it will become "APPLE presents, 'Epic Tales of the Mundane' ) .

All Aboard the Crazy Train
In reality, I could have made a much longer comic about the guy going into even greater detail of how he would market his "invention". But, I figured as long as I'm riding public transit, I'll have plenty of other interactions with people that have mental problems to draw strips about.oh yeah, I know that I misspelled "vacuum". Maybe I'll fix it later. I'm far too lazy right now.
Here's a picture of a raccoon-gunslinger in a post apocalyptic future. I might make a minicomic about him at some point. Maybe.

Transit Ogre with a Nose Goblin
As you can see, our daughter has yet to be born, so I'm still riding the train to work everyday, surrounded by college kids and people such as the one depicted above. Here are a couple of the new sketchcards I made the other day ( featuring the "Savage Dragon", and the "Batman from Zur-En-Arrh", in case you didn't know the characters). The colors look a little washed because the scanner doesn't always pick up color pencils when they're done lightly.

I haven't added these to the blackmarker store as of yet because, well, no one has bought the other ones, so I'm not in too big of a rush.Thursday, March 11, 2010
Socioeconomics on the Commuter Train
Shannon assures me that lots of guys have diamonds in their wedding bands. I, however, do not have ANY married-guy-friends that wear anything other than a nondescript, metal wedding ring, so it seems like some sort of upperclass, status-thing to me. Maybe I'm totally off...By the way, the book I'm reading in this strip is "I Am Going To Be Small", by Jeffrey Brown. I always find myself rereading his books because A.) They're funny and awesome, and B.) Because his books tend to be pocket sized, and therefore good for when I'm on the go.

And yet, I remain unscathed!
First of all, I got up super early so I could check my email, eat breakfast and drink coffee, and still get to work before I normally would. I rode my bike to the train platform, sat down, and waited for about 15 minutes. I assumed that I'd just missed the train, and since they run every 20min. on Sunday, it would be at my stop again shortly. Then this crazy dude showed up, and delivered the monologue detailed in today's strip. Initially, I'm thought, "Great, I'm going to be killed by a serial killer. Who'da thought that's the way I'd go out?!?"Eventually, the psychotic bastard calmed down a little, and took a seat next to me. "Awesome," I silently commented to myself. "This situation is awesomely-horrible." He asked me for a cigarette, and I roll one, hoping to placate him. I listened as he recounted tales of the various people that screwed him over in jail, and how he was fully capable of beating them to death. I even nervously laughed when he made inappropriate jokes about raping and killing people (not necessarily in that order).
To make a long story short, I eventually won him over, and he seemed to lose interest in talking about various assaults and killings. Instead, he opted to tell me about how he was angry that he was made fun of by Oprah Winfrey and Bonnie Hunt on their talk shows, and how he felt this was "...fucked up". 30 minutes into our very one-sided conversation, he deemed me worthy of not stabbing, and instead offered me such praise as, "You have kind soul," and thought that I was capable of "...loving animals." No longer did I need to contemplate whether or not I should just smash him in the nose with my travel mug, and race away on my bike. He then excused himself, riding off into the rising sun, and I stopped myself from shitting the enormous brick which was nearing the seat of my pants.
The train never came.

Playing Dress-Up

I drew this on New Year's day, but it took me until now to finish it ( because of work, a couple various little parties after work, mine and Shannon's 'anniversary' of when we started dating, and two 'Doctor Who' TV specials all stood in the way of me inking this strip). Still, some pretty neat stuff to distract me from my usual routine!

Intuition
I tried to come up with a hip, up and coming, trendy, mainstream, pseudo-"punk" band to draw on her t-shirt, but I'm unfamiliar with most of those newer groups, so I just fell back on a 'Rancid' jab.Thursday, December 24, 2009
Autobio in Reading
The first story in Tom Hart's "Collected Hutch Owen: vol.1" (entitled 'Hutch Owen's Working Hard') is probably my favorite one. It's a little less polished than some of the later stories in the trade as far as the art goes, but I think it's one of my favorite stories. Of course, I say "...less polished...", but I still consider it to be 100 times better than what I draw!

The Poor get Poor-er

It was only recently, a few months ago, that I started buying any monthly comics again (and that was after a 6 or 7 year floppy-buying hiatus). And, I wasn't buying a whole goddamn stack of the things, just a couple of titles I was interested in ( I was purchasing the "Blackest Night" main title, "Flash: Rebirth", and whenever I got around to it, "Wednesday Comics"). Unfortunately, our budget has had to be pared down significantly since Shannon was laid off, and now that she's pregnant, we have to stretch my meager paycheck to the breaking point.
I'm bitching, but I know it could always be worse, so I'm content that there is still a roof over our heads, and a few packages of Ramen in the pantry!
