Mind-Meld

I don't know why, but for a long time, I'd come up with an idea for a strip, and then sit down to draw it, usually without any sort of thumbnails. Over the years, I've managed to screw up a lot of perfectly good premises for scenes and jokes using this method. But, after listening to various comedians talk about their processes on podcasts such as "The Nerdist", I decided it would make sense to write stuff down in my own version of a 'jokebook'. You'd think that sketching out ideas would come naturally to someone that draws so often, but for whatever reason, my thumbnails were usually relegated to planning out longer comic stories, or school art projects, rather than comic strips. Live and learn, I guess. Anyways, Here's the sketch for today's strip:

And here's another drawing from my sketchbook, this being a much more finished peice.

EMO-ness!

I drew this a few days ago, and I thought to myself, "This isn't funny, it's just sad! I'm a sad, sad man... I should quit drawing this comic strip because I'm not funny, I'm just sad."
Which is kinda true, but I looked at it again today, and thought, " Well.. it's kinda funny."

Mainstreaming

I read a lot of comics, up until 7th or 8th grade. I dropped off for a long time, but still read a couple comics here and there, once in a while. By the time I was in high school, the only comics I read were the ones I already owned, but I was still interested enough in the events and storylines in superhero comics to have had a subscription to "Wizard" (the comics magazine).

Nowadays, I read plenty of comics on a regular basis (indie and mainstream alike), and get my nerd-news by listening to a shitload of comics podcasts every day (which include, but are not limited to, Indie Spinner Rack, Around Comics, Comic Geek Speak, iFanboy, 11 o'Clock Comics, etc., etc.)

Yep.

All Grown Up

If you wanna listen to what made me bawl, just listen the 3rd act ("Potus Operandi") of the This American Life episode titled '2010'. But, I guess if you aren't pregnant and or don't have a wife who is, you'll just shrug your shoulders and call me a pussy.

Besides being part of this strip's dialog, 'All Grown Up' is also a song by FYP, which was my favorite band when I was in high school. The song isn't on the myspace account, but here they are, regardless.

Nerdcast

Yes, its true; I've been working on a podcast devoted to geeky subject (mostly comics), called 'Nerdology'! The first episode should be available by this weekend, if everything goes right. I'll post the link on here once I get it all worked out.
