Contemplation Street

Universal truths are cryptic.

Here's the original drawing I used as the basis for the illustrator image I posted recently. I screwed up the perspective, but I like it regardless of that.

Random Sketches and whatnot

I just started the new school-semester last week, so I don't expect to be making many posts in the immediate future. However, I was trying to go through some papers that had piled up in our home office, and I found a couple of drawings in a sketchbook that I'd forgotten:

The robot one was an idea for a T-Shirt design that I abandoned, but colored in photoshop, regardless.

The sketch below it was probably drawn out of boredom, back when I had the time to be bored.

And, if you have a hankering to see more of my bad drawings, I recently contributed to the "Repaneled" blog, here, and redrew a weird panel from Jack Kirby's "Fourth World".

Gluttons for Punishment

This is definitely not the first time I've played badly at a show, but it is the first time I've played badly with "the Might've Beens"! Regardless, it was awesome and fun, and I think we might be playing a house party next weekend...

What's that? Shut up and draw a ninja turtle kicking someone in the face? Well, alright...

Happy Angst

Being as that drawing looks absolutely nothing like our bass player, I'm really starting to see to why James Kochalka draws people (outside of his family) as weird, one eyed monsters and animals of various kinds in his autobio strip, "American Elf"; It's just a lot easier than trying to come up with a unique caricature of everyone you meet.

The Sad, Sad Truth

Y'know, it's strips like this that I sometimes question posting, now that I know my family, and Shannon's family, read them from time to time. But, I think it's a good joke, so... whatever.

Going at it Alone

With the band I was in on, ahem, "hiatus", I'm back to playing folk-punk by my lonesome. That means I won't have to split all those lucrative, imaginary royalties with any bandmates, and all the drink tickets go to me.

A Little Footage

I should have a new strip up sometime tonight, but until then, here's a video of me playing w/ "Parkway Wretch" (I'm on the very left of the stage, playing 2nd guitar) @ the Hollywood Alley, last Tuesday. This probably isn't the most dynamic of footage from the performance, but it's the only video of the show that my friend, Robin, has posted.

Oh yeah, here's the flyer for the upcoming show I'm most excited to play;

Obliviousness

Stephen Colbert would claim this strip was chock of "truthiness" were he ever to read it.

Parkway Wreck

If you wanna check out the band, there's both a Myspace page, and a website.

Derrick, if you see this strip, I just wanted to explain something about it to you;
You see, while it may appear that I accidentally drew you as playing bass left-handed, I actually did it on purpose. The image of you playing left handed is a clue to the reader that the comic takes place in a parallel universe, a universe very similar to the one we live in, except for the fact that you play bass left-handed, rather than with your right.

It's a subtle distinction, but one worth noting.

Video clips from acoustic show...

Here's a clip my wife recorded of me playing acoustic @ Conspire (in Phoenix) for the Underground Publishing Convention benefit show. I'm not very good, but, y'know, whatever. And yes, I am playing the theme from "Mystery Science Theater 3000".

How you look at it

I think I'm going to start coloring all of the new strips that I post, since this is pretty much the only way I'll ever see it done (black and white mini-comics are much cheaper to print).

"Brad, the one man damned" flier

I like making fliers, sometimes. This one was a huge pain in the ass, but I like how it came out.
